Sorry for replying so late.
It's probably an issue with your character's idle animation overriding it. Find a way to detect exactly when your character starts and stops using their attack. Use the code block 'if get actor value [anything] for self' in the behavior controlling your character's idle animation and place it at the very beginning of the code with a 'stop' code block.
Something like that should do it.
