Description

OBS:

-If the game is lagging, try right clicking and selecting "low" quality. It shouldn't change anything visually, but it will most probably cause the game to run smoother.

-To reset your save, press "r" while in the Title Screen.

-Mute the music with "m" (if the game is not paused).

Alright. So this is my submission for the Ludum Dare 29 Jam, with the theme "Beneath the Surface".

The game is pretty simple, but not necessarily easy. Here are some instructions:

You can jump between the white and the black dimension by using either "z" & "x", or the left and the right arrow keys.
Pause with "p", restart a level with "r".

You can also return to the title by pressing "t", when the game is paused.

Everything is made by me, including the music, and even the art, if one can call it that.

This is in no way a unique or super original game. A better, but visually and functionally similar (puzzle) game is SHIFT (there're several sequels ;).

I might update this description at a later point, but right now, I need some sleep...

Enjoy!

The ultimate goal is to go deeper. SPOILER ALERT: The game ends with a black screen (where a lame secret is included, especially if the game is played on Newgrounds).
For every level you succeed in, the game gets darker, until it's eventually pitch black. There's no written story in the game, but while making the game I imagined a character on a quest to find solutions (possibly only inside his subconscious). However for every solution he finds, he feels that it's not enough, so he keeps on digging deeper, until he gets swallowed by the quest for answers, and goes insane, at which point the game ends. I don't know if that's satisfying enough, but that's the truth :p

I'm guessing you're both confused. There are only two buttons, "X" and "Z" (alternately the left and right arrow keys).

The game starts when you press one of the mentioned keys. This is a side scroller, so as you progress to the side, the level (camera) will move too. And if you get stuck, the camera will continue to move, so be careful!

In game, pressing "X" will drop you to the lower dimension, and "Z" will you return you to the above one. The above and below dimensions are different, (they have different objects/hazards etc.). The white ball can only move around in the black dimension, and the black ball can only move in the white one. White tiles are solid for the white ball, and black tiles are solid for the black ball.
That's really all there is to it.

You want to get to the end of a level by switching dimensions, in order to avoid getting stuck, falling down, or getting hindered in any other way. The end of a level is always in the lower dimension, aka, you're supposed to fall down at the very end of a level.

Good luck, and have fun!
