when I was doing the crash course I did a similar thing to implement level changes. I had it set up in the actor's behavior that it would keep count of how many the player destroyed. then in the scene behavior I kept track of the destroyed and if it was greater than a certain number then you automatically show a message on screen and go to the next scene. check out my game InvaderZ. it really is a sucky game and small but it taught me the basics and I'm working on bigger things now. that was after all just the crash course.
