Abigayl's Interactive Tutorials (Part 5)

by Joe (Updated on 2012-07-21)

Tutorial 5 - Music, Screen Boundaries, Backgrounds, Power-ups, and More

CHANGES TO CURRENT STENCYL VERSION:

  • Game Center is now Dashboard
  • Collisions Groups are now in the Settings button at the top of the page
  • No longer need to make Actor Behaviors; use "Events" tab instead
  • Now need to use “Add an Event” at the top left to make the headings
  • If using events, do not need to "Attach to Actor" (still needed with Behaviors though)
  • Collisions between Actors are now handled by collision events (use "Member of Group" and change the group to "Actors")

Congrats on the highscore. Anything over 3000 is really good. The music is not on StencylForge. All of my music is custom-made by several different composers. That one was AgentKay from Kongregate.

Wow! No errors this time AND I got it to work! Sweet! ^_^
Thanks for the great tutorials Abigayl! I manage to get 3289 as my highest score! I stood on the bottom after the first power-up because the enemies seem to speed up after it!

Though it drives me nuts a bit when I have to move the mouse so I can shoot in the direction I want after my character moves from their spot. I went and change the hit box on my character in my game where it's smaller (like the Touhou games, but not as small) which makes it more reasonable than hitting NEAR my dude. But I got the 3289 Highscore on your game in your tutorial!

By the way, what was the song you used for you test game? I like it a lot! Is it on StencylForge?

Now let's see if I can make that card-based Fighter game I had plan to make with Stencyl. It's inspired by the old GBC game "Dragon Ball Z: Legendary Super Warriors"... excellent DBZ, you should check it out! I would love to see a Stencyl game made similar to that game.
