by Joe (Updated on 2012-07-21)

Tutorial 2 - Attributes, Saving/Loading, Kongregate API

CHANGES TO CURRENT STENCYL VERSION:

  • Game Center is now Dashboard
  • No longer need to make Actor Behaviors; can use "Events" tab instead
  • Now need to use "Add an Event" at the top left to make the headings
  • If using events, do not need to "Attach to Actor" (still needed with Behaviors though)

I wasn't able to get everything working as is due to the new format but I was able to get almost everything running! This was very helpful... However, whenever a high-score is recorded everything slows down so much, and the flash player often goes non-responsive for a minute or so. My computer is pretty good... what could be the problem?

Everything went perfect, but I have not gotten the High Score counter records the score. So far I have not identified what may be the problem. I guess I'll understand later. The counter of "score" is working properly. GOOD TUTORIAL!

Very good tutorial. For someone who has never done any programming and the first time making a game you definitely gave me a starting point. I’m looking forward to more. Thank you

BTW, I rarely check any tutorial beyond part 1 (even part 1 is daily at best), so the best way to reach me with a question is via PM in the forum or in my livestream: livestream.com/poweredbyflowers

Kara: Yes, definitely. I made this guide with Kongregate in mind (since that's my "home" site for games), but you can probably use similar logic for mochi, newgrounds, etc. :)

I'm glad you found the problem Meko :). And yes, one minor coding can change everything...

I followed the Tutorial to the T twice. but for some reason, after i added the High score and the Scoring feature, it really slows down my computer AND it removes the feature to move. Ive tested in flash as well as my browser and its the same result. how do i fix this?
