Abigayl's Interactive Tutorials (Part 1)
by Joe (Updated on 2012-07-21)
Tutorial 1 - The Basics
CHANGES TO CURRENT STENCYL VERSION:
- Game Center is now Dashboard
- No longer need to make Actor Behaviors; can use "Events" tab instead
- Now need to use "Add an Event" at the top left to make the headings
- If using events, do not need to "Attach to Actor" (still needed with Behaviors though)
- Collisions Groups are now in the Settings button at the top of the page
- Collisions between Actors are now handled by collision events (use "Member of Group" and change the group to "Actors")

Part 2: Attributes, Saving/Loading, Kongregate API
Part 3: Advanced Controls, Spawning
Part 4: Mouse-based Shooting, Collisions and HP
Part 5: Music, Screen Boundaries, Backgrounds, Power-ups and More
Part 6: Virtually Lagless Actors

Abigayl, can you help me with a problem? My carecter is doing all its supost to but 5 seconds in the game and it moves by it self and starts doing loops and moving out of the scene. Do you know why and how to fix it..?

Oh and on my Behaviors tab, I do not have an option so set behavior type, so when I open the behavior editing menu the workspace is blank. How do I enter in those "When Created" and "Always" tags? Sorry if my terminology is incorrect haha.

So much more helpful than the Crash Courses. You explained everything so simply, and defined everything you did. Very excited to read your other tutorials!

Hi Aby! Love the tutorial! One question: I noticed that with the demo I made, it seemed that the collisions between enemies and my player were a bit fuzzy (the enemies didn't quite touch my player, there was about one character's worth of space between them when "death" occurred.) Is there a way to edit the collision distance between actors?
