Abigayl's Interactive Tutorials (Part 1)
by Joe (Updated on 2012-07-21)
Tutorial 1 - The Basics
CHANGES TO CURRENT STENCYL VERSION:
- Game Center is now Dashboard
- No longer need to make Actor Behaviors; can use "Events" tab instead
- Now need to use "Add an Event" at the top left to make the headings
- If using events, do not need to "Attach to Actor" (still needed with Behaviors though)
- Collisions Groups are now in the Settings button at the top of the page
- Collisions between Actors are now handled by collision events (use "Member of Group" and change the group to "Actors")

Part 2: Attributes, Saving/Loading, Kongregate API
Part 3: Advanced Controls, Spawning
Part 4: Mouse-based Shooting, Collisions and HP
Part 5: Music, Screen Boundaries, Backgrounds, Power-ups and More

CptOlimar: Check the written updates at the top. I try to keep those rather up-to-date. Also, check on Kongregate for the 2.x tutorial set... I still don't understand why Stencyl hasn't uploaded them here...

Excellent guide, though just slightly outdated due to new Stencyl versions, but extremely helpful nonetheless.

Bobby, those are now called "When Updated" or "Updating", they are in Add Event -> Basics. I'm trying to get ahold of Stencyl to get authorization to keep these pages up to date. If you want the more current set, it's on Kongregate: http://www.kongregate.com/games/Abi gayl/stencyl-2-0-tutorial-1-basics

Hello, while using stencyl, I cannot find the "always" block in the flow chart while creating behaviors for my player. This seems crucial because I have all the "if" and "otherwise if" blocks filled out correctly and when I test my game, the character doesn't move. Someone please correct me or tell me someone who can.

For iOS, you have to use touch controls, which are similar to mouse controls. You can use the pre-created joystick feature to get movement though.
Beyond that, there isn't much I know about iOS since I only made one iOS game (a commission).

What I mean, is to make a Game with Stencyl to run on iPhone/iPad. The procedure must be different, since iOS doesn't have arrows, so the move of the actor differs. I can't find how to do it... I think the tutorial you sent me is for web games. Is there anything else I can read to start developing? Thank you for your response :)
