Abigayl's Interactive Tutorials (Part 1)
by Joe (Updated on 2012-07-21)
Tutorial 1 - The Basics
CHANGES TO CURRENT STENCYL VERSION:
- Game Center is now Dashboard
- No longer need to make Actor Behaviors; can use "Events" tab instead
- Now need to use "Add an Event" at the top left to make the headings
- If using events, do not need to "Attach to Actor" (still needed with Behaviors though)
- Collisions Groups are now in the Settings button at the top of the page
- Collisions between Actors are now handled by collision events (use "Member of Group" and change the group to "Actors")

Part 2: Attributes, Saving/Loading, Kongregate API
Part 3: Advanced Controls, Spawning
Part 4: Mouse-based Shooting, Collisions and HP
Part 5: Music, Screen Boundaries, Backgrounds, Power-ups and More
Part 6: Virtually Lagless Actors

For some reason the player moves by itself and the fade in and out happens even though the player and the actor did not collide. Please help! I followed everything in the tutorial but it still does not seem to be working.

Bleduc: Categories were only in the earliest versions of Stencyl. You can simply ignore them and just make behaviors without them.
Kaiser: Thanks... I think...

I love how straight forward this is. However, I'm stumped on slide 11. When I click into Actor Behaviors in the Game Center, I don't get a list of categories for creating motion. Do you know why that might be?

Ebot, want to screenshot the behaviors and send them to me? There's likely a simple error that is causing the issue. Also, did you make sure to always "attach to actor" AND "attach to scene" (if you forget the latter, that could easily be the error).
